Laguna Hills Little League

HAPPY HITTER
Week Five

This Week in Little League – Our kids can hit!

As we roll into spring break, it’s a great time to reflect on how far we’ve come as teams, coaches, and ballplayers. Pretty amazing if you ask us! All the great plays, the perseverance, the sportsmanship and the smiles – we can only hope you’re having as much fun as we are!

AA Padres vs AA Dodgers

The Padres and Dodgers played an exhibition game on Tuesday, April 5 to prepare for the big mid-season change of home plate being opened up for stealing.  Aggressive baserunning was the name of the game in this contest and the kids did a great job improving their defense to get ready for the second half of the season.  James Pitt had a great hit for the Dodgers and defended well behind the plate.  Alex Tsujiuchi and Isaiah Romero also stood out at the catcher position.  Nolan McCarron, Anthony Kamae, and Pitt pitched well for the Dodgers.

For the Padres, Cayden Goodman and Wyatt Beale each put together great innings on the mound, throwing 15 or less pitches each.  Cohen Sanchez made his pitching debut and earned his first strikeout.  Michael Orduno also threw darts from the mound and Jackson Fliegler closed out the game well for his squad.  Dylan Mitchell, Goodman, Goodman, Fliegler, and Orduno all had solid hits for the Padres.

AA Dodgers 9, AA Angels 5

The AA Dodgers won a hard-fought contest over the Angels on Saturday. James Pitt and Alex Tsujiuchi anchored the Dodgers’ offense with five hits, six RBIs, and four runs between them. Landon Chen, Anthony Kamae, Oliver Fast, and Darren Chen all added hits. Isaiah Romero reached safely in all three of his at-bats, adding an insurance run in the fourth. Darren Chen also highlighted the defensive effort with an unassisted double play to end the first inning with bases loaded. From the mound, Kamae got the win on two strong innings, giving up only one run. Pitt provided solid middle relief, and Tsujiuchi continued in his role as the Dodger closer, picking up the save. Landon Chen received the game ball for his hustle, hard work, and consistent improvement throughout the season.

AA Padres 11, AV Royals 6

It was a hit parade for the Padres in a victory over the Aliso Viejo AA Royals.  Jackson Fliegler circled the bases on two solid line drives into left, and Michael Orduno ripped one down the line for his own inside-the-park HR (watch the highlight video above!).  Cayden Goodman and Wyatt Beale led the pitching efforts for the Padres, with Beale going three full innings for the first time this season.  Dylan Mitchell made an outstanding catch on a pop foul behind the plate that had the crowd cheering.  Keaton Millers, in his first game back from injury, got his first hits of the season, showing the team what they’ve been missing.  Adam Mandel, Jack Tran, and Mitchell all added solid hits and runs for the Padres.

A White Sox vs.
A Angels

Matthew Hawksford had a great day on the mound as the A Angels team was impressive on both defense and offense.

The White Sox bats came alive in the last two innings and the team also made some great plays on defense.  Mario Vasquez pitched a great inning and keeps improving on the mound.  Evan Rosano had another solid hit and scored on offense.

A Red Sox vs.
A Dodgers

Game five of the season and these kids keep getting better every week.  Beckett Flores started for the Red Sox and came out of the gate throwing strikes. When it was his turn to bat he added two hits, earning the MVP game ball. JJ Um launched a bases-clearing three run double to center field and Alfredo Lezama took the only hit by pitch of the game like a champ as he bounced right up and eventually scored a run.

Rookie Dodgers

These Dodgers are setting the Rookie League on fire!

Rookie Angels

Rookie Angels enjoyed their game against the Brewers. They had some great fielding from Thomas Glicksman and Andrew Egge.  Reece Ke, Kent Coberth, Leo Kunde and Royce Ke continued to hit well for the Angels.
