Laguna Hills Little League

HAPPY HITTER
Week Two

This Week in Little League

It was another great week in Laguna Hills Little League!  We’re off to an incredible start. The younger divisions are having tons of fun and learning how to play some ball. LHLL will be in great shape for years to come. So much talent!

Our upper division was 5-1 over the weekend against teams from Aliso Viejo and Laguna Niguel, with our AA division 3-0 against fierce competition from Aliso Viejo. Our Majors Dodgers picked up their first W of the season!

Selected Weekend Game Recaps

Thank you to those who sent in pictures and a few words. Remember to send in pictures, recaps, and videos to media@LHLL.org and we’ll try to feature everyone!

Majors Dodgers 5, LN UCLA 2

The Dodgers got their first win against a tough Laguna Niguel team, scoring 5 while giving up 2. Gavin Miller-Holland crushed a line drive to left center, and the team broke through to hopefully begin a streak of many more victories to come!

AA Angels 11, AV Braves 10

Our AA Angels fought tooth and nail to get the win against the AA Aliso Viejo Braves on Saturday. The game was an emotional rollercoaster and ended 11-10 for the Angels after Ayden Zeffer got a game winning hit and brought Andrew McCormick home for the win.

Great pitching by Aiden Sipkovich, Wyatt Cobb and Maddox Fitzpatrick, who also hit a double.

AA Dodgers won 13-12

The AA Dodgers pulled off an unbelievable 13-12 comeback win on Saturday, improving to 3-1 on the season.

Trailing 9-3, the Dodgers came all the way back in the top of the 4th inning and then held on to clinch in the bottom of the 4th. Wyatt McCaslin led off the 4th with a line-drive single, inspiring teammates Oliver Fast, Nolan McCarron, Darren Chen, Isaiah Romero, and Anthony Kamae, all of whom added clutch hits in the last inning to take the lead 13-9. Asher Davis and Colton Hutzler also drew walks in the 4th to keep the rally alive. Alex Tsujiuchi, who had pitched a scoreless 3rd inning, took the mound again in the bottom of the 4th. After giving up three runs that narrowed the Dodger lead to one run, and with two runners on base, Tsujiuchi dug in, showed great courage, and struck out three straight batters to end the game. Landon Chen also added his first hit of the season in the Dodger effort. Wyatt McCaslin received the game ball.

AA Padres win nail biter, 8-6

Our AA Padres edged the AV Padres in a thriller. This game went all the way down to the final pitch in a tremendous time crunch.  Wyatt Beale came on in relief to pitch two of the fastest innings in Little League history and was mobbed by his teammates after the final pitch 1 minute before the game would have been called for time.  Jackson Fliegler had a great start to the game, pitching a pair of scoreless innings.

Jack Tran highlighted the offense with two doubles, including a two run double that drove in Cameron Webb and Josh Scuri to tie the game.  Jackson Fliegler had what turned out to be the game winning RBI.

A Red Sox vs. A Dodgers

This team had the “Let’s go Red Sox” chant going in the dugout!

Theo Mihai turned a double play at SS, while Sony Ruttan hit a three run inside the park home run and earned the game ball.

A White Sox vs. A Angels

It was a great day for Baseball for the White Sox and Angels. Both teams impressed with some amazing defensive plays. For the White Sox, shortstop Jackson Williams made a pair of great plays up the middle; forcing the runners out at second base. At the plate Jackson Lineberger had a fantastic at-bat which included a hard hit foul ball followed by a two strike base hit.

The Angels had Mason Buccola made a incredible play when he picked a hard hit ball out of thin air to make the third out.

Tee Ball Astros

First year Manager Wendy Wilcox is running a tight ship and has whipped this Astros team into shape 😉  They are crushing the ball off the tees and having a blast!

Rookie Angels

Think these kids are having fun?

The Rookie Angels are making plays and getting so much better every day.

Padres Pitching and Defense Shine

AA Padres 4, AV Braves 2

Michael Orduno and Jackson Fliegler allowed just a single run each as the Padres held off the Braves in a game highlighted by great defense on both sides.  Jack Tran had a couple of quality plays at first base, catching his second pop fly foul ball of the season, while both Orduno and Fliegler made quick work of comebackers to the mound.  Josh Scuri had a great hit, driving in an insurance run that provided a little breathing room for Fliegler to close the game.  Tran, Adam Mandel, Dylan Mitchell, Orduno, and Fliegler all had solid hits as well.
