Laguna Hills Little League

It was like the Red Sea parted on Saturday and we had a beautiful day for Baseball.  We got to play a full slate of games which included a 4-0 sweep in interleague play for our AAA and Majors divisions! Hopefully you’re having as much fun as we are!

The Majors Dodgers win in walk off style

The Laguna Niguel Dirtbags, named after Long Beach State’s Baseball Team, put the pressure on our Dodgers squad, led by an over-the-fence HR to the barbecue grills on Main Field. Our Dodgers didn’t give up!  Down 7-5 going into the bottom of the sixth, Nick Dominguez smacked a triple to tie the game, then stole home on a wild pitch to close it out. The best part, it was his birthday!  That’s one great way to celebrate!

AAA Dodgers 11,
LF Savages 1

The Dodgers continue to pitch lights out. The combination of Cayden Goodman, Michael Orduno and Xavier LaSala held the Lake Forest Savages to just one run. Aggressive base running and some key hits allowed the Dodgers to put 11 runs on the board.

AAA Red Sox 8,
LF Mustangs 5

The AAA Red Sox picked up their first win of the season on Saturday over the Lake Forest Mustangs, 8-5. The Sox took advantage of an early lead to coast the rest of the way on fantastic pitching from Anthony Kamae, Wyatt Cobb, and Leo Gonzales, who collectively struck out 11 batters and gave up only one hit.

Kamae got the start and the win, striking out 5 in two innings, while Gonzales was untouchable in his two innings, striking out four. The game ended on a spectacular defensive play, where catcher James Pitt back-picked a runner at first, who then got into a rundown, with Cobb getting the ball to Alex Tsujiuchi for the tag-out at second base. Offensively, Gonzales led the way with two hits, one of which was a blast to the fence for a triple. Cobb, Pitt, Darren Chen, and Landon Chen added hits, while Jack Tran was 2-2 with a run, and Isaiah Romero smashed a 2-run single in the third. Gonzales got the game ball for overall leadership and consistency.

AAA Angels Win Again!

The AAA are looking pretty cool after getting their 3rd win of the season. Another great team effort for these Angels as they defeated the Lake Forest Rippers 8-3 behind superb pitching from Maddox Fitzpatrick, Bryce McDaniel, Luke Riddle, and Henry Stevens.

AA Braves Handle the LF Sharks

Great baseball from both teams today. With the bases loaded in the 2nd inning, Aaron Johnson hit a bomb deep into right field to give the Braves a solid lead. The entire Braves team continued to perform well for the rest of the game.  On defense they made quite a few impressive plays, especially first baseman Frankie Covarrubias. (Pictured below is Matteo Gomez at bat.)

Rookie Pirates at
Rookie Dodgers

Refreshingly warm temperatures graced the Rookie Pirates and Rookie Dodgers game at the LHLL Softball field Saturday.   Both teams came ready to play, with lots of action on the field and smiles on players’ faces.  Melia McCanta helped lead the Pirates with three fierce putouts in the field, helped by Emery Hawksford’s two heady assists.  Violet Burrowes had a web-gem-caliber play at first base.  Morgan Marek and Brandon Lowe Jr were among several Pirates sluggers getting on base multiple times in this high-scoring contest.  The talented Dodgers also showed impressive offensive prowess, with several hits reaching the outfield turf.  The Dodgers also sparkled in the field, getting three quick outs in the first inning.  Not to be forgotten, customary Rookie postgame snacks were on-point as well.

A Red Sox vs A Angels

The Future looks bright for LHLL. These two teams filled with future stars faced off in a close game. There were no runs scored in the first inning due to some great defense. That’s pretty rare in a Single A game. As the game went on there were so many hard hit balls on both sides. Matthew Hawksford almost knocked off his coach’s head with a hard hit ball that was reluctantly caught. We can’t wait for the rematch, these teams meet again in three weeks.
